ART TALKS / SUSAN PHILIPSZ

ART TALKS / SUSAN PHILIPSZ

”My work deals with the spatial properties of sound and with the relationships between sound and architecture. I am particularly interested in the emotive and psychological properties of sound and how it can be used as a device to alter individual consciousness. I have used sound as a medium in public spaces to trigger an awareness in the listener, to temporarily alter their perception of themselves in a particular place and time.

For the talk I would like to present some of my recent projects including The Distant Sound, (2014) a large scale artwork, commissioned by In Site in collaboration with Grimeton radio station. The project was inspired by the Danish, Swedish and Norwegian coastline and explored themes of distance and separation through the medium of radio. Some other recent projects include War Damaged Musical Instruments (Pair), Theseus Temple, As Many As Will, The River Cycle, Part File Score.”

Susan Philipsz är född 1965 i Glasgow. Hon har bland annat deltagit i den stora världskonstutställningen dOCUMENTA 13 och Bienalen Manifesta 10. Hon har haft separatutställningar på bland annat Hamburger Bahnhof i Berlin, Carnegie Museum of Art i Pittsburgh, Museum of Contemporary Art i Chicago, Wexner Center for the Arts, Institute of Contemporary Art i London, Skulptur Projekte i Muenster och Malmö konsthall. 2010 vann Philipsz Turnerpriset och 2014 tilldelades hon en OBE (Order of the Bristish Empire).

Samtalet kommer att hållas på engelska
